Pair of Silver Bracelets
Silver
D: 7.5 cm
The two bracelets, which look very similar but are not identical, are composed of several twisted wires of silver arranged in a semi-circle; they are soldered to two triangular plates that form the ends of the adornment.
The surface of the ends is decorated with wires in low relief, which follow the edges. In the central part of the triangles are large knobs (six for one of the bracelets, nine for the other) arranged regularly; they also serve to hide the soldering of the wires.
These adornments are one of the most characteristic production of Slavic goldsmiths in the late Middle Ages. They were produced in Balkan workshops, in southern Europe, for local clients mainly: many related adornments were excavated in the tombs of wealthy women who lived in the centers of these regions.
Complete and in very good condition; traces of concretions and of oxidation. Minor cracks in the metal.
